The SCRAPMONO Kimono jacket, exclusively designed for hvíla editions' launch exhibition 'Tangible Beauties', is a one-of-a-kind piece made of approximately 250 leftover fabric scraps of 100% organic cotton canvas. Using nojin’s signature silhouette, the kimono inspired jacket fits loosely, features big front pockets and a bold coloured circle detail at the back. The raw edges of each fabric scrap create a unique and personalised look the more the garment is worn.

Limited edition pieces like this are designed around the use of excess material and are part of nojin’s ongoing upcycling project where otherwise disregarded textiles are turned into new garments. All leftover scraps are being collected with each nojin item being made. Any irregular shapes are cut into squares and rectangles and sorted by colour and material for further processing. Laid out afterwards, matching the shape of the pattern pieces like a puzzle, all individual pieces are being pinned together and stitched along all sides before assembling them into the final garment. The entire process can take a week or longer depending on the complexity of the design.

Unique piece

This garment is designed to be loose-fitted and worn as a layering piece. ONE SIZE ONLY: M/L - Back length 99cm. Chest 78cm (double for circumference). Sleeve length 66cm

Canvas needs washing less than you’d expect. In fact, the less you wash it, the longer it lasts. Between washes, you can remove surface dirt with a damp cloth. To prevent color bleeding, hand wash or wash at 30° using mild detergent on a cold cycle. Do not bleach. Hang dry, as heat from a tumble dryer can cause shrinkage. Light iron or steam if desired.
