Firew Konjo, founder of Shimena, saw the decline of a 2000-year-old tradition of textile making in the South of Ethiopia. The import of cheap clothing and fabrics had led to less demand and fewer jobs for artisans in the region. Taking action, Konjo sought to save the craft industry and in 2018, won the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders.

First shown at hvíla editions' launch exhibition 'Tangible Beauties' during Berlin Art Week 2021, the Nebule lamps are one of hettler.tüllmann’s more recent projects together with Firew Konjo in Arba Minch, Ethiopia.
