Veronika Beckh, Berlin, Germany

Glass artist Veronika Beckh was interested in the material from a young age; the transparency and the idea that something so rigid can be permeable and flowing. For her, molten glass is still magical.
Veronika Beckh was trained as a glass blower in Zwiesel, Germany before she received her BA in glass 1998 from the Surrey Institute of Art and Design in Farnham, her MFA in Applied Arts in 2004 from the Sandberg Instituut in Amsterdam and her MA in Art in Context in 2008 from the Universität der Künste Berlin. From 1998 to 2004 she worked and taught at the LWL-Industriemuseum Glashütte Gernheim. Since 2005 she lives and works as free-lance artist in Berlin and exhibits internationally. Various stipends and residencies led her to Pilchuck Glass School, North Lands Creative Glass in Lybster and to the Corning Museum of Glass.
Her INTINGO vases were part of the
IVORY pop-up exhibition during Gallery Weekend Berlin 2022. INTINGO comes from Latin and means ’I dip into’. By the additive gathering of the post Beckh is able to blow up the glass partially to create new volumes. In this spontaneous way of working the artist emphasizes the fluid quality of glass. She is working with the difference of heat and thickness of the material. Through these altering layers a graphic structure is appearing, which creates optical illusions and color fades away with each object in a unique way.
